Concreta: the largest Architecture, Construction, Design and Engineering Fair of the future returns to Exponor

From 13th to 16th October 2022

Concreta is back in 2022 and kicks off with the Under 40 by CIN Prize and a whole host of other innovations. The biennial event is back, in a format now consolidated, and is preparing to present technical and technological innovations, solutions and new materials, looking at trends in construction, architecture, design and engineering in a national context.

17th November 2021. From 13th to 16th October 2022, Concreta – the Architecture, Construction, Design and Engineering Fair is returning to Exponor for its 30th edition. On the theme the Circular Economy and determining the design of the future, the fair brings together, in a single space, the fields of creativity, sustainability, trends and art to promote the best practices in the sectors which it covers, in an all-inclusive, visionary way.

Concreta kicks off with the Under 40 by CIN Prize and a whole host of other innovations

Concreta gives Portuguese companies access to a multiplicity of business, this also reflected in a diverse agenda of parallel events, providing the conditions for securing international co-operation and hosting business meetings, as well as materialising networking and brainstorming sessions and finding new clients and distributors.

One of these examples is the 3rd Edition of the Under 40 by CIN Prize, awarded with the technical support of the Conselho Diretivo Regional do Norte (CDRN) of the Ordem dos Arquitetos and the sponsorship of Tintas CIN. With a Board constituted of five specialists – the Architects Bruno André, Paula Santos, Diogo Aguiar, Luís Pedro Pires Sobral and the Engineer Sandra Pereira -, the competition seeks to promote and acknowledge work done by new generations of Portuguese architects, distinguishing structures built within the national territory which have been adapted for the reality of the era and stand out for their capacity in creativity, innovation and technical quality. One prize will be awarded, pecuniary in nature, to the competitor classified in 1st place, of €2,000, and to the competitor classified in 2nd place, of €1,000. The competition Board may also propose to award a maximum of three Highly Commended prizes, non-pecuniary in nature.

In addition, the fair is again promoting the Archiprix Portugal Prize, which distinguishes, annually, the best work at the end of the Masters course presented in the fields of Architecture and Town Planning, and the Arquétipo Prize, in partnership with the Ordem dos Arquitetos (Norte Regional Section), which, on the theme of the Circular Economy, distinguishes professionals for the way they work, their construction processes and new products.

Of the different themed areas created specially for this edition of the biennial event, worth special mention are the Dream LabEspaço – dedicated to start-ups connected to the fields of construction, architecture and design and creative industries as a way of making use of new talents and making the most of opportunities – and Praças Concreta – a stage for original practices, techniques and products which promise to mark the future, where exercises in provocation, encounter and reflexion will take place.

This edition will also see the provision of the digital platform E+E Concreta, specially selected and highly focussed on creating a global ecosystem for the sector and forging closer relations between visitors and exhibitors, promoting sharing of experiences, knowledge, business and encounters.

Simultaneously returning will be Elétrica– Exhibition of Electrical and Electronic Equipment, aimed at professionals in both fields: the exhibition presents the latest innovations and solutions for bringing the market and sustainable requirements into line. This sector is one of the ones which most reflects the rise in construction in Portugal, both in the refurbishment and new-build market.

For Diogo Aguiar who, since 2017, has been the commissioner of the event and in charge of developing the concept, “Concreta is much more than a hub for sales opportunities. It is an event about innovation, thought and interaction, uniting industry and professionals to reflect, inspire and instigate architecture and construction in Portugal. In an increasingly complex ecosystem and in the aftermath of such an impacting crisis, we want the biennial event to be evermore attentive to future trends and part of the solution to the challenges with which sectors attending are faced”.

Since, in 2019, 94% of exhibitors made contact with new clients and 90% of exhibitors achieved their aims, the new edition of Concreta promises to keep the stakes high as it integrates more and more innovations.

Through these actions and by holding other professional gatherings, exhibitions and mini-events in conjunction with different companies and entities, the event promises to increase creativity and innovation in the sectors which combine unprecedented standards of excellence in Portugal.

Concreta is going to be held at Exponor – Oporto International Fair (Av. Dr. António Macedo ◦ 4450-617 Leça da Palmeira – Portugal), from 13th to 16th October 2022.
